Message from Mumia Abu-Jamal, from the American Gulag

The American Way of Massacres
[col. writ. 7/23/12]  © ’12 Mumia Abu-Jamal
And here we go again.

A man armed with semi-automatic weapons unleashes his pent-up rage and alienation on his fellow Americans. He kills nearly a dozen people – men, women and babies – and wounds scores of others.

It need not be said that he is American. That is presumed. And while events such as these occasionally occur in other lands (as in Norway a year ago), they are most often an American expression.

Now, AuroraColorado joins the parade of death, of Columbine, of Virginia Tech and other points of massacre.

According to police accounts, the accused dyed his hair red, and called himself “The Joker”, a mad villainous character from the comic book-made-movie series figure, “Batman”.
“The Joker” slays a dozen people.

What next, the Penguin?

How utterly American!
There is something dark anforeboding in the American soul. A lust for violence that has not been sated by the genocide of Indian tribes, nor centuries of the legalized terrorism waged against Africans; nor the numerous wars waged abroad.

It is in our religious hymns, our national anthem, our entertainment and in our psyches.

War

Violence

Death

Destruction

It is in our Imperial foreign policy, and in our domestic policy (think prison industrial complex), as well.

And now, like a tennis championship title, a new name is etched on the memory of millions of Americans.

AuroraColorado.

Score: 12 and 59.

We’re No. 1!

Again.

Harvard University Announcement No Tuition and No Student Loans for Undergraduate Students from Low-income Families - Very Important!

Harvard University Announcement

Harvard University Announcement
No tuition and no student loans

Harvard University announced over the weekend that from now on undergraduate students from low-income
families will pay no tuition. In making the announcement, Harvard's
president Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only ten percent of the
students in elite higher education come from families in the lower half
of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing
enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the
income distribution."

If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon,
Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university
recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from
low-income families can go to Harvard for free... no tuition and no
student loans!

To find out more about Harvard offering free tuition for families making less than $60,000 a year, visit Harvard's
financial aid website at: http://www.fao.fas.harvard.edu/ or call
the school's financial aid office at (617) 495-1581

Poet Aries Jordan on The Color of Law

The color of law

by

Aries jordan
Stand your ground when  you'er killing society's undesirables
It's rationalized to kill a little Black boy
And have an international movement to arrest the killer
But when you declare you will not be used as a punching bag for your boyfriends rage
and stand your ground during his usual beat downs
Which happen like clock work
You put under the jail
We where hoodies in solidarity
Piss on the judicial system with clarity
Young folks chant at marches for there future children
Demanding just for all of our babies killed under the law
The Emmett Tills, Sean bells, Amadou Diallos the Oscar Grants
The countless women who don't make  headlines
Sodomized and victimized as they watch
Their family brutalized under the color of law
We have heard so many times public officials call conferences
To pledge there commitment to investigating these matters
And retraining there law enforcement
A line taken from the secret training manual  the Art of White Supremacy
We know the color of law in a "colorblind" society
Not a full spectrum of the rain bow but black and white
Depending where you at on the color scale determines your outcome
Brown, black and deep yellow you too bias or impartial for jury selection
They say justice is blind but it damn sure got a color
Red, White and Blue
When a white man shoots up a movie theater
His defense team goes straight for the insanity plea
Cause there is no way a White college student could do this
He must have feel through the cracks
had a break down
Because he is not from a line of people that would do that
Black, brown and deep Yellow its apart of your DNA
Another story to make the evening news confirming your inferiority
Brown with straight black hair,
Terrorist
Suicide bomber
Death penalty
Life in prison
no top psychologist
No debate on every channel of the news
Stand your ground but you better not cross that color line
you might be charged with assaulting an officer
resisting arrest
interfering in police matters.
The color of law
red for the blood shed by the people of the world who have resisted and rejected the  color scheme of law
the blood of genocide, enslavement, Jim crow, segregation,
imminent domain, prison industrial complex system and gentrification
White for white supremacy which has weaved its way into every corner of the world
Blue for the blues that has always been the soundtrack of this country
Blue for the water filled with tears of the innocent
Tears and screams muffled, muted, maimed under the color of law

Peace, Aries Jordan

Note by Marvin X: We were just informed today, August 3, 2012, that one of the street persons who stopped by Academy of da Corner often, was beaten to death by her boyfriend by Lake Merritt in Oakland. He remained at the scene of the crime to confess this murder of passion, but we know it was a case of persons suffering severe mental illness and drug addiction or the dual diagnosed. We remember both parties, young, in their thirties, she from Africa, he, a North American African. What does all this matter?
