HOWARD UNIVERSITY CHEER LEADERS KNEEL

The Kennesaw State University community in Georgia is having a divisive debate after five football cheerleaders kneeling during the national anthem on Sept. 30, in solidarity with NFL players who are bringing awareness to racial injustice.
According to The New York Times, cheerleaders at Howard University began kneeling during the anthem since September 2016, when quarter Colin Kaepernick launched his controversial protest. Unlike the Kennesaw cheerleaders, there’s been no drama at the historically Black institution.
In fact, since the 1980s Howard University has played the Black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” at home games immediately before “The Star-Spangled Banner.” As The Times also noted, it’s not unusual to see raised fists in the crowd and on the field during the Black national anthem—which predates the national anthem.
“I think about liberty and justice for all, and how it’s not being executed in our country right now,” cheerleader squad captain Sydney Stallworth told The Times, reflecting on the national anthem.
Stallworth added that she feels “lucky” to be enrolled at an HBCU where she has a platform to express her views about racism and inequality.
Meanwhile, at Kennesaw State University, the turmoil continues. According to the AJC, Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren expressed his disapproval with the university’s president, Sam Olens. After Warren weighed in, the university’s athletic department stopped allowing the cheerleaders on the field during the anthem.
Not everyone at Howard agrees with the anthem protest, but disapproval is muted.
Howard’s cheerleaders coach, Demarco Brooks, told The Times that kneeling during the anthem would not be his “first choice” to protest racial injustice. However, he’s respects the cheerleaders’ rights.

NORTH KOREA ATTACKS MAD DOG TRUMP

North Korean leaflets attacking 'mad dog Trump' dropped over Seoul
www.independent.co.uk

Propaganda fliers presumed to be from North Korea and calling US President Donald Trump a “mad dog” have turned up across central Seoul, including near the presidential Blue House, according to posts on social media and people who found them.
“Death to old lunatic Trump!” reads one poster, with a North Korean soldier with rifle in hand, crushing what looks to be Trump’s head with his tongue dangling out of his mouth. Near the soldier’s head is the line: “Complete obliteration.”
Another poster shows Trump with the body of a dog being decapitated by an axe. Blood is shown splattered on the axe in the poster, which states: “Let’s behead mad dog Trump for the future of a peaceful and warless world and mankind!”
Both were in colour.

It is not difficult to find North Korean propaganda posters in South Korea, usually flown by balloon over the highly fortified demilitarised zone. Military images and anti-US threats are common in North Korea propaganda as Pyongyang demands the United States cease what it says is its preparations for invasion.
But the new series of fliers posted recently on Twitter and other social media target Trump specifically.
Trump last month, in a speech to the United Nations, threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea if needed to defend itself and allies and called the North’s leader Kim Jong-un a “rocket man” on a suicide mission.
“I am pretty sure it came from North Korea by balloon, since the prevailing winds during October have been from north to south and we’ve been getting reports of others finding them throughout Seoul,” said Chad O‘Carroll, managing director of NK News, a Seoul-based news subscription service, who found the leaflets while jogging in central Seoul.
In an apparent jab at Trump’s UN speech, one of the propaganda posters featured Trump standing behind a podium with a rocket in his mouth painted with the words “totally destroy North Korea”.
Again, Trump is depicted as a dog with a human face and labelled as “mad dog Trump”.
Men in suits with surprised looks on their faces are shown in the poster saying “He’s gone completely insane” and “If we let him be, there will be war”.
Kim Jong-un inspects weapon North Korea says is powerful hydrogen bombReclusive North Korea, which has carried out a series of nuclear and missile tests in defiance of UN sanctions, and the rich, democratic South are technically still at war because their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.
The North regularly threatens to destroy the South and its main ally, the United States.

Black Bird Press News & Review: White Supremacy Drug War Blowback: Opioid addiction

Black Bird Press News & Review: White Supremacy Drug War Blowback: Opioid addiction

60 minutes: DEA thwarted on opioid epidermic

'60 Minutes': DEA thwarted on opioid epidemic

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s attempts to curb the opioid epidemic as deaths increased were thwarted by powerful forces in Washington, according to a joint report by “60 Minutes” and The Washington Post.
The report, which airs at 7:30 p.m. Sunday on CBS, was previewed Friday morning on “CBS This Morning.” The story will appear in the Post’s Sunday edition.
Every day in this country, 91 people die in the crisis.
Reporters Bill Whitaker of “60 Minutes” and Scott Higham of The Post talked about the investigation, which makes the point that big companies have been complicit in the drug deaths.
Joe Rannazzisi, a former deputy assistant administrator, blasts distributors for fueling the epidemic and ignoring the deadly toll. “This is an industry that allowed millions and millions of drugs to go into bad pharmacies and doctors’ offices that distributed them out to people who had no legitimate need for those drugs,” he tells Whitaker.
How bad is the situation?
“This is an industry that’s out of control,” Rannazzisi said. “What they want to do is do what they want to do, and not worry about what the law is. If they don’t follow the law in drug supply, people die. That’s just it.”
In the preview Friday morning, the reporters said that DEA investigators were running up against a drug industry that’s incredibly powerful in Washington because of lobbying and spending in Congress.
Whitaker said the distributors ship the drugs and are required to keep track of every pill, but one West Virginia town of 300 people received 9 million opioid pills over several years.
“The DEA whistleblowers we talked to said that happened again and again and again,” Whitaker said.
The bottom line: The drug companies are more influential with lawmakers than their constituents’ suffering, Whitaker said.
The DEA people saw cases they were building languish and “die on the vine” in Washington because of lobbying, Higham said.
The report on “60 Minutes” will be double in length. The six-month investigation is also the work of Lenny Bernstein of The Post and ”60 Minutes” producers Ira Rosen and Sam Hornblower.

hboedeker@orlandosentinel.com and 407-420-5756.'60 Minutes' Blames The Pharmaceutical Industry For America's Heroin Epidemic

I cover science and medicine, and believe this is biology's century.
Sunday evening, 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker went to Columbus, Ohio, to understand America's heroin epidemic. The drug is becoming cheaper and easier to get, he argues, and its stigma is vanishing. But his reporting places much of the blame for the addictions and deaths he documents on opioid pain pills. People become addicted to the pills, and than switch to heroin because it is cheaper.
“I graduated in the 80s,” Tracy Morrison, a nurse, tells the newsmagazine. “I was a nursing director when we decided to swing the pendulum from not treating pain to treat everybody's pain. I was a part of that. And at that time, I had no idea that we were addicting people.”
Now Tracy has two daughters who are both addicts. One of them, Jenna, talks to 60 Minutes, saying she started on pain pills at 15 or 16 and progressed to heroin when she was 18. Eventually, she overdosed and almost died. But Whitaker finds more damning anecdotes. He talks to parents whose teenage children became addicted to opiates that were originally prescribed to them by their doctors. Tyler Campbell, for instance, was a high school football star. His parents said he became addicted to opiates after his doctor prescribed him 60 Vicodin for a shoulder surgery. (Vicodin and generic versions of it were, incidentally, the most prescribed medicine in the U.S. every year between 2009 and 2012.)

Some people are obviously becoming addicted to drugs like Oxycontin and Vicodin because they abuse them, without ever needing to take them for pain. And some are starting heroin because it is cheap, because the stigma that it once had is decreasing, and because it can be smoked or snorted, instead of injected, making it easier to use it at a party. And we should always be suspicious of the narrative 60 Minutes adopts here, that a drug that was once used by “other people” is now being used by “people like us,” or, as one of 60 Minutes’ telegenic subjects puts it, “even Miss America could be a junkie.”
And some people do need these drugs because of pain. “What about those POOR SOULS who need Pain KILLERS, but now cannot get them,” writes commenter CESNNEWYORK on CBS’ site. “I have had to SUFFER with [a] knee that needs to be replaced, but because DOCTORS are not ready issue these meds I have to SUFFER.”

The flip side of this pain and suffering is that prescription pain pills cause 16,000 deaths a year in the U.S., not counting those caused by heroin. How to we balance the benefit of these drugs against that clear risk? A terrifying letter published in The New England Journal of Medicine last week showed that even as the abuse of pain drugs like Oxycontin, Percocet, and Vicodin seems to have dropped off, it has been replaced by the use of heroin. Do we view that as the overuse (and marketing) of opioid pills causing heroin use, or as restrictions on needed drugs causing an increase in heroin use? Is it both?
Andrew Kolodny, the chief medical officer of addiction treatment facility Phoenix House, argued to me over email that those who switch to heroin may be better off than those who don’t. He says that older people who become addicted to painkillers have less trouble getting pills from doctors than teenagers, and that they are more likely to overdose than those who switch to heroin.

HILLARY AIDES DEFEND HER DELAYED RESPONSE TO HARVEY WEINSTEIN

Celeb TV Host Gets Attacked by Hillary Aides After He Dared to Criticize Her Weinstein Statement

Current and former aides to Hillary Clinton ganged up on Anthony Bourdain on Twitter after Bourdain criticized Clinton for her delayed response to the sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein.
Clinton received criticism for initially staying silent after the New York Times reported last week that several women have accused Weinstein, the powerful Hollywood producer and Democratic mega-donor, of sexual harassment, assault, and even rape. The New Yorker subsequently published a story detailing how Italian actress Ambra Battilana Gutierrez staged a sting operation with the police, during which she secretly recorded Weinstein admitting he groped her and that he does so to other women often.
Weinstein has donated thousands of dollars to Clinton throughout her political career. He maxed out donations ($5,400) to Clinton's failed 2016 presidential campaign and gave more than $30,000 to the Hillary Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee between Clinton's campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and more than 30 state Democratic parties.
The Hollywood mogul has also given at least $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation.
Five days after the initial Times story broke, amid growing criticism, Clinton released a statement condemning Weinstein.
"I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein," Clinton said in the statement. "The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior."
Clinton then conducted an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria, clips of which aired Wednesday night, in which the former presidential candidate said she would re-donate the money she received from Weinstein, but did not specify where it would go.
Bourdain, host of CNN's "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown," criticized Clinton for her tepid response on Wednesday night.
And I have to say, Hillary's interview with Fareed Zakaria was shameful in its deflection and its disingenuousness.
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 11, 2017
know what Hillary Clinton is NOT? She's not stupid. Or unsophisticated about the world. The Weinstein stories had been out there for years
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 11, 2017
Mindless Hillary hate aside, this was a terrible response to questions about a "friend" who's been tormenting women for decades.
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 11, 2017
I have met Hillary Clinton. I liked her. I admired much about her. This interview was a real disappointment.
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 11, 2017
And please..this is not about blame or equivalency . My feelings about Mr. Trump are well known. No one should take satisfaction from this
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 12, 2017
Hillary is CLEARLY not responsible for anything Weinstein Thats screamingly obvious. Her response to questions though has been uninspiring
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 12, 2017
Secretary Clinton was one of the most intelligent, well prepared, well briefed politicians ever. So, yes. I'd hoped for a better response
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 12, 2017
The Weinstein controversy is personal for Bourdain. He is dating Italian actress and director Asia Argento, one of Weinstein's alleged victims.
I can assure you that the victims of Mr. Weinstein's three decades of predatory behavior are disappointed too. I'm sitting next to one.
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) October 12, 2017
Clinton aides quickly came to their current or former boss's defense. Clinton's communications director, Nick Merrill, first told Bourdain to "get a grip."
Seriously @Bourdain, get a grip. She did an honest interview, condemned HW, is returning contributions. I’m tossing all my @LuckyPeach mags. https://t.co/YcShUYfX4t
— Nick Merrill (@NickMerrill) October 12, 2017
Her former campaign spokesman, Brian Fallon, told Bourdain to "go eat a scorpion."
Go eat a scorpion or something.https://t.co/jlKBC2TDmI
— Brian Fallon (@brianefallon) October 12, 2017
Clinton adviser Adam Parkhomenko called Bourdain's comments "sad."
On Hillary Clinton’s wedding anniversary, @Bourdain had nothing better to do than attack her. Sad. https://t.co/LbeQzL8V7s
— Adam Parkhomenko (@AdamParkhomenko) October 12, 2017
The Clinton aides also went after CNN media reporter Dylan Byers, who tweeted that Clinton should donate the Weinstein money on top of what she already gives to charity "in order to mean something."
It’s 2 separate points.HRC gives 10% of her money to charity, personally. Also, she will donate campaign contributions from HW to charity. https://t.co/FbhelxHtJh
— Nick Merrill (@NickMerrill) October 12, 2017
Trump is the President. He committed sexual assault. And he gives nothing to charity.Let's worry about him instead.https://t.co/PF76IQDXqK

MARVIN X ON HARVEY WEINSTEIN AND THE MYTHOLOGY OF PUSSY AND DICK

The matter of sexual improprieties transcends patriarchal culture, race and gender into pure power relationships between human beings. Yes, sexual improprieties are pervasive in the arts, academia, the corporate workplace, in all religions and every other social institution and/or environment. As per Hollywood and the casting couch, let us be honest, Hollywood is not the only villain, but all the arts: even in the Black Arts Movement, and alas, in the Black Liberation Movement, such sexual improprieties were pervasive, and I repeat, in academia as well, including Black studies, along with all other academic studies. When I taught English at a certain university and a student complained to my dean, and after I denied all charges, the dean made me agree to have sexual encounters with grad students only, leave the freshman girls alone. She noted that I had been under surveillance and was observed in a restaurant having dinner with the freshman student who complained about my sexual behavior as an instructor.

As a writer, director, producer, actor and lecturer and visiting professor in academia, I took full advantage of my position saturated in male privilege. If Harvey Weinstein is guilty, let me be hyperbolic: so is every man. As I examine global patriarchal culture, I conclude men are predators, women are prey. In war, we know men are expendable and disposable but women are booty or spoils of war.

But as I said at the outset, sexual domination transcends gender. We have known gay men in theatre who demanded sexual liberties with young gay actors or said in classical language, demanded the young brothers join them on the casting couch. And don't think for a moment lesbian women in the arts do not take full advantage of their power positions as per young females, demanding sexual improprieties for career advancement. Of course this madness goes on in the corporate workplace.
The American South has a sordid history of black women performing sexual acts to keep their jobs, alas, with full knowledge of their husbands! As they say in Houston, Texas, "You better AX somebody!" And not to put this madness on the "Dirty South," years ago Jet Magazine (the Negro Bible), revealed a great percentage of Black women confessed to having sex with the boss on the job!
This entire matter is about power and privilege, not gender, although in the majority global patriarchal culture, men are the villains, though other genders are on the rise. Again, this is a global pandemic that encompasses all religions, no matter Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Yoruba, Hindu, et al. Certainly, we must note the pedophilia in the Catholic church, Muslim madrassas, Yoruba manhood training rites, etc. It is well known America allows Afghanistan soldiers to have sexual relations with young boys as a cultural rite.
And it well known 30% of USA soldiers are victims of rape, alas, male and female! I asked a former female member of the US Army, why and how was she violated since she was armed when she was raped, she replied, "We are not trained to retaliate!"
So the Mythology of Pussy and Dick continues and no solution is in sight as long as the patriarchal culture dominates, and again, it is quite doubtful the matriarchal culture will deconstruct this abomination. Alas, did not Hillary Clinton, socalled champion of women's rights, defend her husband's sexual improprieties and try to destroy the women he debased? So much for the feminine mystique!

Without the total destruction of mythological religiosity in all spiritual institutions, along with the deconstruction of white supremacy capitalism and its newborn babe globalism that transcends racism,  pathological sexual relations shall persist! There is a light at the end of the tunnel: women will soon be able to drive in Saudi Arabia!

Tape #3: Marvin X's Walk In the Light Concert: Fillmore Slim sings and speaks

When pimps and thugs showed up at Marvin X's 2004 Black Radical Book Fair in San Francisco's grimy and gritty Tenderloin District, among them was Fillmore Slim(not yet an author but Godfather of West Coast Macking), accompanied by his comrades who'd authored books, e.g., Jimmy Starr, Rosebud Bitterdose, Micky More, et al. After the pimps and "thugs" spoke and said if they had known they could make money writing books,, they would have never gone into pimping and thug life, Dr. Julia Hare told them not to feel guilty because there were ecclesiastical pimps every Sunday morning.

WETape #3: Marvin X's Walk In the Light Concert: Fillmore Slim sings and speaks

In this segment, Marvin X interviews blues singer and mack man Fillmroe Slim on the consequences of the game. The 82 year old elder spits wisdom to the young brothers who want to up their game!
Fillmore is still singing the blues worldwide and just released his autobiography Blues Man Mack, available on Amazon.com and Black Bird Press News. Marvin X says was not Malcolm X a pimp who transcended his pimp life? Fillmore says he will soon release a gospel album. We know one things about pimps, they are for real, not phony, fake ass, pseudo conscious negroes. FYI, I converted the biggest pimp in my hometown of Fresno, CA: Marcel (PBUH). After seeing my production of Amiri Baraka's Dutchman at Fresno State, circa 1967(I was Clay and my partner Ethna X. Wyatt/Hurriyah was Lula; and after loaning me one of his white ho's wig), Marcel came to the production and when he said Clay stabbed to death by Lula, threw in his pimping towel and joined the Nation of Islam. He said after seeing the white woman stab Clay, he thought about what would happen to him if one of his white ho's stabbed him in his motel room. If he called black people, would they give a fuck? If he called the police would they come or tell the ho to push the knife in further? Marcel eventually made his haj to Mecca and became an Imam in the California Department of Corrections. Allah is the Greatest!
