Children's Issue of the Movement Newspaper, Nov. 2017

This Children's issue was inspired by my granddaughter, Naeemah, when she asked me, "When you gonna put me on the cover of your newspaper, Grandfather?" Ache, and so it is! We dedicate this issue to Children everywhere. As Marvin Gaye said, "Save the children!"

Grandson Jahmeel, MX and granddaughter Naeemah at Academy of da Corner, 14th and Broadway, downtown Oakland. Author Ishmael Reed says, "If you want to learn about motivation and inspiration, don't spend all that money going to workshops and seminars. Just go stand at 14th and Broadway and watch Marvin X at work. He's Plato teaching on the streets of Oakland."

One day at the Berkeley Flea Market, Naeemah, 5, and Jahmeel, 11, made $60.00 asking for donations for The Movement Newspaper. Naeemah made about $40.00, including a $20.00 donation. When their mother, Attorney Amira Jackmon, came to pick them up, Naeemah said, "Grandfather, are you going to split the pot or what?" We split the pot!

At Academy of da Corner, 14th and Broadway,  one day they came to earn money for Jahmeel's tablet and Naeemah's micro kitchen. Jahmeel needed $70.00 but told his grandfather, "I'm not going to make what I need with these dollar donations for your paper." Grandpa told him to shut up because he didn't know what blessing was coming his way.

Soon a customer arrived and spent $100.00 on books. Then he asked Jahmeel what was the name of God? Jahmeel answered immediately, "Jehovah!" The man was shocked but handed Jahmeel a $100.00 bill. He asked the boy how he knew the name of God? Jahmeel replied,"Jah is in my name!" Jahmeel now had money for his tablet and for his sister's micro kitchen! His grandfather told him to never think negative again.

On the positive, when Jahmeel was about three years old and they departed Academy of Da Corner for a walk to Lake Merritt, out of the blue he said, "Grandfather, you can't save the world, but I can!"
